From your first welcome, our local concierge team is happy to help you shape your time here. Some guests come to surf every morning, others slow down with yoga, explore wildlife, or simply notice the rhythm of the jungle and ocean. Whether your days are full or intentionally open, we’re here to help you find experiences that feel right for you.

Many of the activities we offer are rooted in our immediate surroundings. As the hotel closest to the beach in Playa Guiones, you don’t drive to nature; it surrounds you in the daily life at Olas Verdes.

Our on-site certified naturalist guide is one experience that sets Olas Verdes apart. Passionate, knowledgeable, and deeply connected to the local ecosystem, he helps guests see Nosara with new eyes, pointing out birds, plants, insects, and subtle details that often go unnoticed.

You can join a guided walk or simply ask a question along the path. Many guests find that this personal connection to nature becomes a memorable part of their stay.

An early morning guided birdwatching walk-through gardens and mangrove areas.

In the early hours, when the air is still and the forest is most active, join a guided birdwatching walk through the hotel grounds and nearby mangrove areas. Listening for calls and spotting local species becomes a way to tune in to the landscape. Many guests find that after this walk, they appreciate the birds and sounds around them for the rest of their stay.

This guided night walk invites you to explore the forest after dark.

After sunset, the jungle reveals a quieter, more mysterious side. This guided night walk explores forest and mangrove trails in search of nocturnal life: frogs, insects, bats, and other creatures that emerge after dark. Moving at an easy pace, it’s a calm, safe, and intimate way to experience the ecosystems that surround the hotel.

The friendly waters of Playa Guiones are perfect to learn to surf or improve your surfing skills.

Playa Guiones is one of Costa Rica’s most consistent surf beaches, known for its wide sandy bottom and friendly waves. Suitable for beginners and experienced surfers alike, it’s easy to take a lesson, rent a board, or paddle out on your own, and it’s all just a short walk from the hotel.

Visit the Nosara Wildlife Rescue Center

The Refuge for Wildlife is a place for injured and displaced wildlife from Nosara and the region.

A short drive from Olas Verdes, the Nosara Wildlife Rescue Center, operated by International Animal Rescue, cares for injured and orphaned native animals. Visiting offers insight into local conservation efforts and a deeper understanding of the wildlife in this region.

An early morning guided birdwatching walk-through gardens and mangrove areas, ideal for spotting local species and hearing the jungle come alive. By the end of the tour, you’ll begin to recognize the birds and sounds around you, adding a new layer of awareness to the rest of your stay; and leaving with a deeper connection to the natural life that surrounds Olas Verdes.

  • When: Fridays through Wednesdays at 6:00 am. Reservations must be made at least 8 hours in advance.
  • Duration: Two hours (approximately).
  • Participants: 6 to 99 years old. Minors need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes or sturdy sandals, light and breathable clothing, and a hat or cap for sun protection. No technical hiking gear is required, as this is a slow-paced walk on easy terrain.
  • Includes: Bilingual Certified Naturalist Guide, and binoculars (when needed).

When the sun sets, the jungle comes alive in subtle ways. This guided night walk invites you to explore the forest after dark, discovering nocturnal insects, bats, frogs and other wildlife in a calm, safe, and surprisingly intimate experience.

  • When: Thursdays to Tuesdays at 6:00pm. Reservations at least 8 hours in advance.
  • Duration: One to one and a half hours (approximately).
  • Participants: 6 to 99 years old.  Minors need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • What to bring: Comfortable clothes for walking, closed-toe shoes, long pants recommended for evening exploration; optional insect repellent. 
  • Includes: Bilingual Certified Naturalist Guide, and flashlight (if needed).

The Refuge for Wildlife has been a place for injured, displaced and orphaned wildlife from Nosara and the Peninsula region of Costa Rica for nearly 20 years. This non-profit organization continues to provide relief thanks to the thoughtful donations from visitors. Enjoy a visit to learn more about the animals that live in the area and how the Refuge safes wildlife.
  • When: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 am. Must reserve in advance.
  • Duration: Two-three hours (approximately).
  • Participants: Minimum 2 persons, 6 years or older.
  • What to bring: Tennis shoes or sandals, hat (if desired), comfortable clothes, bug repellent, water bottle and camera.
  • Includes: Tour. Transportation to the Refuge is NOT included.

Watch as these ancient creatures venture out of the ocean onto land to lay eggs on the beach. Visit one of the three largest nesting sites in the world for Olive Ridley sea turtles. The main beach for “arribadas” (nesting) and “reventaderos” (incubation) is Playa Ostional, located about a 25-minute drive from Olas Verdes Hotel. If this event occurs during your stay in Nosara, our Concierge department will announce it at Reception.
  • When?: The event occurs 3 days per month. Tours at dawn or at night.
  • Duration: Approximately 3 hours.
  • Participants: Minimum 2 people, minimum age 6 years.
  • What to bring: Tennis or beach shoes (they can get wet), comfortable clothing, insect repellent, a bottle of water and a camera.
  • Includes: Transportation, guide and entrance.

Your adventure departs from the hotel and will take you along the Refuge to Playa Pelada. Children 4-6 welcome to ride on the same horse with their parent. If going with young kids, the tour can be shorter.
  • When: Everyday at 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. A minimum 24 notice required.
  • Duration: Two hours (approximately).
  • Participants: Minimum 2 persons, 6 years or older.
  • What to bring: Tennis shoes or hiking boots, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat (if desired), comfortable clothes, long pants (preferable) and water bottle.
  • Includes: Guide, horses and helmet.

In-Suite or Nature-View Massages In the comfort of your suite or at the yoga deck overlooking the jungle, our massage therapist will provide you any of these massages: Deep Tissue, Relaxing Massage, Surfer Massage, Corporal Exfoliation, Hydrating Treatment and Facial Massage, Kids Massage (under 12 years), Couple’s Massage.
  • When: Everyday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Must reserve in advance.
  • Duration: 40 to 90 minutes (depending on selected massage).
  • Participants: Minimum 6 years or older. Please advise about any medical condition.
  • What to bring: Comfortable clothing.
  • Includes: Oils and any product needed for the selected massage.

Rent an ATV to explore the nearby places or take a guided tour of Pilas Blancas Forrest, Mala Noche Forest, San Juanillo Beach, or a Coffee Farm.
  • When: Every day, any time rental; AM and PM tours.
  • Duration: Tours are two to four hours (approximately). Daily and weekly rental.
  • Participants: Driver must have a valid driver’s license.
  • What to bring: Tennis shoes or hiking boots, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat (if desired), driver’s license, comfortable clothes, swimsuit (some tours), long pants, and camera.
  • Includes: ATV, safety gear, beverages and snacks, entrance fee when applicable.

Enjoy the beautiful underwater scenery of San Juanillo or Playa Garza. The warm waters of the Pacific Ocean of Costa Rica are full of living creatures. You will be able to see many species during the snorkeling tour. Visibility is usually 15 to 30 ft.
  • When: Every day; it depends on tides, weather and water conditions.
  • Duration: Two hours (approximately).
  • Participants: Minimum two persons (shore tour) and four persons (boat tour). Must be 6 years or older.
  • What to bring: Sandals, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat (if desired), comfortable clothes, swimsuit, rash guard (recommended) and towel.
  • Includes: Transportation from Olas Verdes, guide, snorkeling gear, beverages and fruits.

Nosara Day Camp’s mission is to connect Kids with Nosara’s environment, culture and community through group activities and adventure excursions. These Eco Tours are exclusively for kids. The CPR and First-Aid trained counselors take small groups to local farms, tide pools, rivers, waterfalls and beaches, introducing your child to the wonders & culture unique to Nosara. The exploration program takes place from 8 am to 1 pm with an optional extended day program afternoon from 1-4.
  • When: Every day from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Duration: Four hours (approximately).
  • Participants: Minimum two persons; need to be 5 years or older.
  • What to bring: Sandals or tennis shoes, sunscreen, hat, comfortable clothes, bathing suit, rash guard (recommended), towel and water bottle.
  • Includes: Transportation from Olas Verdes, counselors, beverages and snacks.

Shore and open water fishing. The ocean in front of Nosara is rich in marine life. Species include blue, black & striped marlin, sailfish, yellow fin tuna, dorado/mahi-mahi, rooster fish, snook, cubera snapper and amber jacks. It can be a half day charter (shore fishing) or full day charter for off shore fishing, with a capacity of 1-5 persons per boat. Boats depart from Playa Garza, which is very close to Nosara and Olas Verdes.
  • When: Every day at 7:00 am. Minimum 24 hour reservation required.
  • Duration: Four or eight hours (half day or full day).
  • Participants: Must be at least one adult; kids 6 years or older.
  • What to bring: Sandals or beach shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses and hat, comfortable clothes, preferably long-sleeved shirt, swimsuit, camera.
  • Includes: Transportation from Olas Verdes to Playa Garza, boat, crew, guide, fishing tackle, bait, beverages and snacks.
