From Mountain Soil to Morning Bliss: The Story Behind Your Coffee
This isn’t just any coffee. The rich, smooth cup you’re enjoying in your suite at Olas Verdes has a name behind it—Don Vidal Campos, a farmer from the misty mountains of Naranjal, just outside Nosara.
For over 15 years, Don Vidal worked in the coffee fields of Alajuela, one of Costa Rica’s traditional coffee regions. There, he learned the rhythms of the coffee harvest, the art of cultivation, and the love of the bean. When he returned to his hometown of Naranjal, he brought his knowledge—and found something special waiting for him in the mountains.
In the lush highlands of Naranjal and Los Ángeles, just minutes away from Nosara, Don Vidal discovered a coffee variety called Costa Rica 95—a resilient plant that thrives in the region’s rich volcanic soil and natural shade. Strong against disease and full of character, this bean grows slowly at altitude, developing the smooth, balanced flavor you’re now enjoying.
What makes this coffee truly exceptional is the hands-on care. Don Vidal doesn’t just grow the beans—he processes, roasts, and delivers them himself. Every month since 2016, he’s made the trip down the mountain to Olas Verdes Hotel in Playa Guiones, bringing his harvest straight to our guest.
This is farm-to-cup in the most literal sense. No middlemen, no big machines—just passion, tradition, and the pride of one Costa Rican farmer.
If you’re curious to see it all for yourself, we offer tours to Don Vidal’s farm. It’s a beautiful journey into the mountains, where you can walk the rows of coffee plants, see the drying patios, and maybe even share a cup with the man himself.
